Saving Private Ryan - Movie Review Example A subjective point of view usually shows the viewer what the main character is experiencing in the story. To create this point of view, Spielberg had to show us shots of Captain Miller looking at something and then shows us how the captain reacts to what the captain witnesses. This subjective point of view, not only appears during the first epic battle scene but also in other battle scenes throughout the film. There is another remarkable battle scene later in the film where the soldiers encounter German troops in the bombed-out remains of a French town. Spielberg is keen to show the viewer that men who fight in the war put their life on the line for others, not for heroism, but because it is their duty to do so. He clarifies this point by using Captain Millerââ¬â¢s point of view. Miller is a delightful, soft-spoken individual that experiences the horrifying violence of the battle scene as he sees other soldiers lose their lives. As the leader of his group, Captain Miller lets us i n on the importance of winning the war and at the same time shows the viewer on his determination to complete his mission of saving Ryanââ¬â¢s life so that he can go back home. Question 2 One controlling motif in the film is the use of noise and silence. This motif is clearly brought out especially since Spielberg uses Captain Millerââ¬â¢s point of view. ... This happens during the first battle scene on the beach where a soldier tries to ask him for orders, and he snaps out of the silence back to the noise. The elimination of sound is an effective expression of Captain Millerââ¬â¢s state of mind at that time. It could be logically significant because his hearing could have been damaged by the blasting noise of the battle machines, or a psychological trauma of his emotional pain. This motif helps to enhance the subjectivity of the film as well as the theme of courage. In a way, a soldier has to face his opponents and to Miller blocking out all the noise so as to see things clearly helps him to be courageous to face the battle. By alternating between the noise and silence during battle, Spielberg shows his mastery of sound editing while he lets the viewer experience what the soldiers are going through on the battlefield. It is doubtless to say the Spielberg expertly uses this motif to enhance the theme of the film as well as carry the v iewer through the battle experience. Question 3 Spielberg uses Tom Hanks as Captain Miller and in doing so succeeds in portraying him as a human. He conveys his humanity through his ability to lead his group of men in their quest to save the life of one man. In doing so, they need to stay alive amid exploding bombs and flying bullets. Captain Miller knows that it is necessary to win the war but what drives him is the desire to survive it all and go home to his wife and family. This desire drives him to complete his mission because he knows that family is an extremely fundamental aspect of oneââ¬â¢s life.Ã

Elizabeth Barrett Browning Elizabeth Barrett Browning was born Elizabeth Barrett Moulton-Barrett at Coxhoe Hall, Durham County on March 6, 1806. She was one of twelve children. Her parents, Edward Moulton-Barrett and Mary Graham Clarke Moulton-Barrett had eight sons and four daughters. Between 1809 and 1814 Elizabeth began writing poetry. In 1818 she wrote ââ¬Å"The Battle of Marathonâ⬠and in 1820 her father had it published. When Elizabeth was fifteen years of age, she developed an illness and was prescribed Opium, which began her lifelong Opium habit. Elizabethââ¬â¢s first published work was ââ¬Å"The Rose and Zephyrâ⬠in 1825 at the age of twenty-one. A year later, she published An Essay on Mind. Both publications were anonymous and were financially supported by her family. Her father assisted in getting them both published. Elizabeth had commented later in her career that these works were ââ¬Å"Popeââ¬â¢s Homer done over again, or rather redoneâ⬠. She obviously thought very little of the early part of her career. Her Mother passed away in 1828 and Elizabeth began studying classical literature under H.S. Boyd. Her next publication was Prometheus Bound, published in 1833 and once again, anonymously. This translation was from the Greek playwright, Aeschylus. Boyd re-ignited an interest of Elizabethââ¬â¢s since childhood, in Greek literature and studies. During her youth, Elizabeth was self- taught in the area of literature. She read Paradise Lost, Danteââ¬â¢s Inferno and the Old Testament, in Hebrew, which was obviously the backdrop for Prometheus Bound. In 1837 Elizabethââ¬â¢s health deteriorated when she burst a blood vessel affecting her lungs; Elizabeth became an invalid. One year later, Elizabeth published her first volume of poetry under her own name, The Seraphim and Other Poems. This work received favorable reviews, which in turn, brought about a correspondence with Wordsworth, Carlyle, and Poe. Poe even wrote an introduction in Elizabethââ¬â¢s two-volume edition of poetry Poems in 1844. She truly began her literary career in 1838. Elizabeth moved to Torquay for her health and was often accompanied by different family members but her favorite was her brother, Edward. Elizabethââ¬â¢s uncle passed away that sa me year leaving her financially secure. In 1840, Edward drowned in Babbacombe Bay off Torquay. She then wrote ââ¬Å"De Profundisâ⬠expressing her grief. In 1840, Elizabeth wrote ââ¬Å"The Cry of the Childrenâ⬠. In 1841 she returned to London, still an invalid, and began working on reviews, articles, and translations.

These changes allow your reaction time to increase, which could mean the difference between life and death. However, many people, including students, live in stressful situations every day, and this has a negative effect of their health. Factors causing exam-related stress: One of the main causes of exam-related stress is the pressure on students to excel in the exams academically. Pressure can be placed on the student by family or friends, as well as by the student themselves. Pressure placed on the student by family members is often the result of parents wanting their children to achieve better results than they did, causing unnecessary stress on the student. Fear of disappointing family members also causes high levels of stress for the student. Certain expectations are held of students by their parents, such as being accepted into a certain high-school or tertiary institution. These expectations can be unrealistic and not be based on the studentââ¬â¢s strengths and weaknesses. These expectations can also create pressure on the student to meet his parentsââ¬â¢ expectations, which creates feelings of inadequacy when they canââ¬â¢t be met. Unit 2 narrative Assignment Kaplan University Pamela Baker HU 300 ââ¬â 25 Folk tale, fairy tales, and fables have been used for generations and have been passed down from generation to generation to teach children about morals, whatââ¬â¢s right and wrong, cultures and believes. The emotional connection to feelings that children develop from them will help them develop a sense of belonging. Folk tales, fairy tales and fables have changed over time depending on how and where they are told but the outcomes are always the same. My favorite fable growing up was Aesopââ¬â¢s the Tortoise and the Hare.This fable was about a hare that thinks he is faster than anyone else. He is always boosting about how he is so fast that no one can beat him. He is always piking on the tortious about how slow he is. One day the tortious is fed up with the hair and his bragging and tells him that he can be beat. The hair laughs and asks by who you? The tortoise agrees to race the hair. They decide to start the race early the next morning. The tortoise started at a slow and steady pace. Since the tortoise is moving at a slow and steady pace. The hare feels that the tortoise is moving so slow he has time to take a nap even before he starts racing.When he awakes he sees that the tortoise is only about a third of the way to the finish line. The hare then decides to get something to eat. He eats and eats until he is full. Now with his belly full and the warm sun shining he starts felling very heavy eyed so he decides to take another nap. This time when he awakes he sees that the tortoise has almost made it to the finish line. The hare jumps up and rushes out of the field. The hare runs and runs as fast as he can towards the finish line. He is running so fast he become so tired. He is too tired and cannot make it across the finish line because he is too tired.The tortoise that has kept going at a slow and steady pace is not tired at all. He is able to crosses the finish line. The mor al of this fable is that it is better to pace yourself then to procrastinate and then rush to get it done. You can get more accomplished and accomplished well if you take your time. I also think that another lesson that could be learned is that it is not nice to keep boosting about thing that you are better at than everyone else. It is also not nice to pick o people when they cannot accomplish or perform at the same rate as you.I do think that the morals that could be learned from fairy tales, folk tales and fables could indeed effect the guiding of an individualââ¬â¢s action. If an individual understands the story being told then they will learn and will think twice about their actions. They will also learn that they should keep other individuals feelings into consideration. The narrative or story telling depend on which culture the story is being told. Communication a lesson though story telling parents, caregivers and educators can create an emotional connection to feelings.Th is is a lot different than just giving a child a list of ruses to follow. Children tend to learn and retain better if it something fun. Rather than give them a set of rules. Families have used folk tales, fairy tales and fables to teach children a lesson or morals for many generations.
